SHOPIFY MIGRATION

Shopify Migration

From WooCommerce, Magento or Shopware to Shopify, with your data and a redirect for every old URL.

muun studio is a Shopify agency based in Hamburg. We migrate online stores from WooCommerce, Magento and Shopware to Shopify and Shopify Plus. Products, customer accounts, orders and content come along, and every old URL points to the right new page. We build the new store in parallel, so your current store keeps selling until we switch over. If you have your own shopping app, it moves with you.

YOUR CURRENT PLATFORM

Which platform are you moving from?

Every platform stores products, variants and URLs differently. The pages on WooCommerce, Magento and Shopware cover what matters for your move.

WHAT MOVES

What moves in a migration

We agree on what moves at the start. Not everything has to: old test products, unused plugins and orphaned pages are better left behind.

Products and variants
With images, prices, stock, attributes and SEO copy. We map variants and attributes so filters and product pages work again in Shopify.
Customer accounts
Names, addresses, newsletter consent and customer groups. Passwords can't be transferred. On Shopify, customers sign in with a one-time code sent by email.
Orders
We import past orders so customers can see their purchases in their account and your team has the history in Shopify admin.
Content and blog
Pages, blog posts, images, menus and legal pages. Whatever a plugin did in your old store, we rebuild with theme sections or apps.
URLs and redirects
Shopify uses fixed patterns like /products/ and /collections/. Every old URL gets a 301 redirect, so Google and old links land on the right page.
Apps and integrations
Payments, shipping, ERP, marketplaces, email marketing and tracking, connected to Shopify and tested before the switch.

DECISION GUIDE

Migration app or agency?

If all you need is to move data, there are apps like Cart2Cart, LitExtension or Matrixify. They transfer products, customers and orders. Whether that's enough depends on how much has to happen around the data.

DataProducts, customers and orders, using fixed mappings.Custom fields, variants, customer groups and content too, checked in test runs.
Store and designNot included. You start with a theme and build it yourself.Your current design on a Shopify theme, or a new design.
RedirectsProducts and categories, depending on the app.For every old URL, checked against a crawl and Search Console.
IntegrationsNot included.ERP, shipping, marketplaces and tracking reconnected and tested.
Switching overYou plan the date, the final data sync and the domain switch yourself. We plan the cutover date, transfer the last orders and stay with you in the weeks after.
CostLow, usually based on data volume.Project price, depending on scope and integrations.
A good fit if …your store is small, has little custom logic and you have time for clean-up.Google is an important channel, you have many products or custom logic, or other systems need connecting.

SCOPE

What we handle in a migration

Migration plan

We review data, plugins, integrations and URLs and decide what moves where.

Store and design

Your store on a Shopify theme, in your current design or a new one.

Data and SEO

Data import in test runs, redirects, page titles, meta descriptions and images.

Your app, too

If you have a shopping app, we connect it to Shopify so it goes live with the new store.

How a migration works with us

  1. 1

    Analysis and plan

We review data, plugins, integrations and every URL with traffic or backlinks, and decide what moves.

  2. 2

    Build in parallel

The new store takes shape on Shopify while your current store keeps selling as usual.

  3. 3

    Test runs

We transfer the data several times as a test and check variants, prices, customer accounts, redirects and test orders.

  4. 4

    Switch-over and follow-up

On cutover day we transfer the last orders and switch the domain. Afterwards we keep an eye on Search Console, error pages and revenue.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about migrating to Shopify

You have really good questions, and we have found answers to them. Is your question not included? Scroll down and get in touch with Eric!

How much does a Shopify migration cost?

The price depends mainly on the number of products and variants, custom logic such as customer groups, tiered prices or subscriptions, the systems that need connecting, and whether you keep your design or want a new one. On top of that come the running costs of your Shopify plan and apps. In a free 30-minute intro call, we estimate effort, budget and timeline for your store.

How long does a migration to Shopify take?

That depends on the scope. A store with standard features moves much faster than one with an ERP, B2B pricing and several languages. Most of the time goes into planning, building and testing. The switch itself usually takes just a few hours. You'll get a timeline for your store after the intro call.

Will we lose our Google rankings when we switch?

The biggest risk is changed URLs. Shopify uses fixed patterns like /products/ and /collections/, so your old addresses will change. That's why every old URL gets a 301 redirect to its new address. We carry over page titles, descriptions and copy, and after launch we check in Search Console that Google picks up the new pages. Small fluctuations in the first few weeks are normal.

Will our store be offline during the migration?

No. We build the new store in parallel, and your current store keeps selling until the switch. On cutover day we transfer the latest orders and new customer accounts and switch the domain.

What happens to our customers' passwords?

For security reasons, passwords can't be transferred to another system, Shopify included. Customer accounts with their addresses and orders still move over. On Shopify, customers sign in with a one-time code sent to their email, so they don't need a new password.

Can we keep our design?

Yes. We rebuild your current design on a Shopify theme, or use the move for a new design. Both work, a new design just takes longer.

What happens to our plugins and extensions?

For most of them there's a Shopify app, or Shopify already has the feature built in. We go through your list at the start and decide for each plugin whether it needs an app, a custom solution or no replacement at all. Plugins for caching or security drop out, because Shopify takes care of hosting and updates.

Does our app move too?

Yes, if you have your own shopping app. We connect it to Shopify: products, cart and customer account then come from Shopify, and payment runs through Shopify checkout. When Hagel moved from Magento to Shopify, we migrated their app, and it went live on the same day as the new store. More on our app development page.

Do you migrate from other platforms too?

We focus on WooCommerce, Magento and Shopware. If you're on a different platform, such as JTL-Shop, Gambio, OXID or a website builder, we'll look at what's different in the intro call.

Is switching to Shopify worth it for us?

Usually when updates, hosting and plugin maintenance eat up a lot of time, or new features take too long. It makes little sense if your business depends on features only your current system has, or if you've just invested heavily in it. We'll tell you that in the intro call, too.
