FOR MAGENTO AND ADOBE COMMERCE
A shopping app for your Magento store
Your own mobile app for iOS and Android, connected to your existing store.
muun studio from Hamburg, Germany, builds shopping apps for stores on Magento and Adobe Commerce. Products, prices, cart and customer accounts come from Magento, and orders land in your back end as usual. If you’re planning a move to Shopify, the app comes along: the Hagel app ran on Magento first and, after the move, went live on the same day as the new Shopify store.

CASE STUDY
Hagel: Magento first, now Shopify
Hagel is one of Germany’s largest suppliers of hair care and hairdressing products. We reconceived its shopping app and rebuilt it from scratch while the store was still running on Magento: around 30,000 products, many special rules for prices and assortments, plus an AI hair simulator. Its App Store rating rose from 1.3 to 4.8 stars. When Hagel moved to Shopify, we moved the app, and it went live on the same day as the new store.
- stars in the App Store
- 1.3 → 4.8
- launch as the new Shopify store
- Same day
- products in the app
- ≈ 30,000
HOW THE APP CONNECTS TO MAGENTO
What your app uses from Magento
The app talks to your store through Magento’s interfaces. You keep working in the back end you know, and the app follows automatically.
- Products and categories
- Products with their attributes and variants, categories, images and stock come live from Magento. Large product ranges stay fast in the app too.
- Customer accounts and groups
- Customers log in with their existing account. Prices that apply to their customer group show up in the app too.
- Cart and orders
- Cart, coupons and orders run through Magento. Orders land in your back end and flow to your ERP and shipping as usual.
- Countries and languages
- If you run several store views, the app shows the right language, currency and range for each country.
- Push, loyalty & recommendations
- Push messages, loyalty programmes and personal product recommendations, connected to your tools such as Klaviyo.
- Ready for a switch
- We build the connection so the app can follow you to Shopify later. Design, features and your App Store listing stay the same.
MOVING TO SHOPIFY
What happens to the app when you move to Shopify
If a move to Shopify is on the cards, your app doesn’t have to wait. As soon as the new store is ready, we switch the app’s connection. How the store migration itself works is covered on our Magento to Shopify page.
| Today with Magento | After the move to Shopify | |
|---|---|---|
| App in the store | Your app with its ratings. | The same app with the same ratings. Your customers get an update. |
| Design and features | Built for your brand and your product range. | Stay. Where Shopify works differently, for example with discounts or free gifts, we rebuild it. |
| Products, prices, stock | Come from Magento. | Come from Shopify. |
| Cart and checkout | Run through Magento. | Run through Shopify checkout. |
| Customer accounts | Login with the Magento account. | Accounts move over; customers log in with a one-time code instead of a password. |
| Go-live | You decide when to switch. | The app goes live with the new store; for Hagel, on the same day. |
As of November 2026.

Frequently asked questions about shopping apps for Magento
You have really good questions, and we have found answers to them. Is your question not included? Scroll down and get in touch with Eric!
Does the app work with Magento 2 and Adobe Commerce?
Yes. We connect the app to Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce through the system’s interfaces (such as GraphQL and REST). Whether your store runs in the cloud or on your own servers makes no difference to the app.
Do we need to rebuild our store for the app?
Usually not. The app uses the data your store already has: products, prices, customer accounts and orders. You keep managing everything in the Magento back end. Extensions without an interface sometimes need adjustments; we spot those during discovery.
What about our Magento extensions?
Many extensions, for example for reward points, reviews or product configurators, come with their own interfaces. At the start we go through which of them the app needs. Where an interface is missing, we build our own connection or solve the feature directly in the app.
How does checkout work in the app?
Cart and order run through Magento, and orders land in your back end as usual. Whether checkout runs directly in the app or uses your existing checkout depends mainly on your payment providers. We clarify that in the intro call.
What happens to the app when we move to Shopify?
It moves with you. We switch the connection from Magento to Shopify, design and features stay, and customers then pay in Shopify checkout. For Hagel, the moved app went live on the same day as the new Shopify store. How the store migration works is covered on our Magento to Shopify page.
Is an app worth it if we’re already planning to move to Shopify?
If the app is on your list anyway, yes: you don’t lose time, and the app moves with you later. If the move is only a few months away, it can cost less to build the app for Shopify right away and launch it with the new store. We work that out with you in the intro call.
Do you also work on the Magento store itself?
No, for the store itself our focus is Shopify. For the app we work with your team or your Magento agency, for example when an interface is missing. If you want to move to Shopify, we handle the migration.
How much does a shopping app for a Magento store cost?
It depends mainly on the feature set, custom logic for prices and assortments, and the extensions and systems that need to be connected. On top come ongoing costs for maintenance and development, because new iOS and Android versions and store guidelines need care. In the free intro call we work out with you whether a custom app pays off for your store.
How long does it take to build the app?
A first version of your app is ready after 4 to 6 weeks. The time until launch depends mainly on the feature set and how many systems need to be connected. You get a realistic timeline after the intro call.
When is a custom app worth it?
In our experience an app pays for itself from about 3,000 active repeat customers. Other good signs: your customers order at least three times a year, a large share of revenue already comes from smartphones, and you regularly run launches, promotions or a loyalty programme. There is a detailed checklist in our article A mobile app for your online store: when it pays off.
Who looks after the app after launch?
We do. After launch we take care of updates for new iOS and Android versions, monitoring and new features. We work in growth cycles: building and testing every month, reviewing results and setting priorities every quarter.
